Course summary:

In Introduction to debating: Lincoln-Douglas format students will practice debate (Lincoln-Douglas format) – a modern public communication technique. The course has a special focus on debate organization and layout and will train skills of building a case, defining a strategy and tactics of refuting opponents’ arguments, as well as tactics and methods of having a successful dispute.

In this course students will acquire skills that will let them:

  • prepare a public speech according to format and a set order;
  • build a case taking into account methods of forming and influencing the public opinion;
  • make a public speech and adapt successful verbal techniques to dominate over an opponent and audience;
  • oppose an opponent and use different polemic methods;
  • analyze expert opinions; and
  • define own opinion.
